An electric bike can be a great alternative to a car in the city, helping to reduce exhaust emissions and improve air quality. Funding from the commune is an additional bonus that will encourage even more people to use this ecological form of transport.

Support program for the purchase of an electric bicycle

The municipality of Stavanger is launching an environmentally and pocket-friendly program. Now you can get support for purchasing an electric bike.

Who can apply for support?

  • Residents living and registered in the municipality of Stavanger.
  • You must be over 18 years old.
  • Maximum of two applications from the same address, but only one application per person.
  • Private individuals who did not receive support for electric bicycles or electric cargo bicycles in previous rounds.

This is worth knowing:

  • You can get support of up to 30 percent of the purchase price, but up to a maximum of NOK 5000.
  • NOK 2 million has been allocated for this support program. If more applications are received than allocated funds, support will be decided by lot.
  • The support applies to people who ordered or purchased an electric bike after April 12, and also submitted an application and received a support commitment.
  • When purchasing an electric bike, remember to keep your receipt. It must include your name and surname, the type and name of the bike and the price. If you are approved for support to purchase an electric bike, you will need a receipt.
  • You can buy a new or used e-bike from a registered dealer or shop. So not from a private person.
  • People receiving support must keep their electric bike for at least three years.
  • The support or part of it should be returned if it was paid on an incorrect basis.
  • There is also an ongoing support program for electric cargo bikes . Support can only be obtained under one of the e-bike programs. If you are applying for both programs, your first application applies.
  • If you receive support, receipts and documentation must be submitted by December 1, 2024. This means you can purchase an electric bike in spring, summer or autumn.
  • You can order or buy a bike after submitting the application. This does not affect whether you receive support or not.

Please note the reference code you will receive in response. You will need this code if you receive support for the purchase of an electric bike.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 3, 2024.

Why do we have this support program?

As we read on the website of the Stavanger municipality, the goal is to reduce the number of cars on the roads and make it easier for more people to choose bicycles as a means of transport. When e-bikes replace fossil fuel vehicles, it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Stavanger.

An electric bike is a good alternative to a car, but it costs more than regular bikes. That's why we want to support those who are going to buy an electric bike.
