Norway probably won't meet climate goals

New research published by Kantar sheds light on society's current attitude towards climate policy. According to the report, trust in politicians who keep their promises in this matter remains at a low level, oscillating around 23 out of 100 possible points. This is two points less than in December 2023.

There is still a widespread belief in the need to develop renewable energy. Research shows that residents of the northern regions of the country are particularly concerned about ensuring stable access to energy. Analyzes indicate that these concerns may be related to expectations related to electrification of the area, such as the planned activities at Melkøya.

Most electricity consumers have negative associations with the industry

Solar and hydropower are positively perceived in local communities, as is nuclear energy, which is positively assessed by over half of respondents. However, onshore wind has faced more criticism, particularly in southern and western regions.

Research shows that the majority electricity consumers has negative associations with the industry, often associating it with concepts such as greed and fraud. Despite this, the reputation of electricity suppliers shows a positive trend, with an increase in the reputation index from 34 to 40 points.

Fjordkraft remains the market leader, although 17% of customers have changed suppliers in the last year. Companies such as Vibb, Tibber and Å Strøm are attracting new customers, while others such as NorgesEnergi are losing popularity.

In the face of these data, there is an urgent need to understand public expectations as well as further action towards a sustainable energy policy.
