The tax office has finished sending all tax returns: the first ones have already received their tax settlement

On Friday, March 22, the tax office finished sending all tax returns for the 2023 income year. In total, approximately 5,1 million returns were sent, and the first ones have already received their tax settlement.

Tax return figures show that people who have a good chance of getting their money back appear to be receiving higher amounts than usual. Those who received provisionally calculated residual tax received higher residual tax than last year, but lower than two years ago.

Tax Director Nina Schanke Funnemark encourages everyone to take the time to file their taxes.

– We know that many people are most interested in whether... tax return was there a minus or a plus. – It is always important to check your tax return. There may be errors or missing information, and you may be entitled to deductions that were not completed earlier. If you are not sure whether you are entitled to a deduction, read the Norwegian Tax Office's deduction instructions, urges Nina Schanke Funnemark.

Many have checked beforehand. The first ones have already received their tax settlement

Tax returns are sent from Thursday, March 7, on in recent years About 3,5 million people checked their tax returns in two weeks. Over 1,4 million people have already submitted their tax returns.

Preliminary data shows that 2,7 million people can benefit from tax relief. On average it is NOK 17 per person, and in total 200 NOK billion. This is more than in previous years.

When will the money arrive?

Most people receive their tax settlement before July, and some have to wait until the fall. You will receive a notification when tax return it will be ready.

So far, just over 500 have been sent. tax settlements. During the period Easter Tax returns will not be sent.

If you do not submit your tax return on time or you have tax arrears, you will receive your tax settlement in June at the earliest. Spouses receive their tax returns at the same time, so if your spouse does not pay or receives back taxes, you also have to wait until June at the earliest.

Some people receive their tax return later than others

Unfortunately, we are unable to tell you exactly when you will receive your tax return, either by phone or through other channels. When your tax return is ready, you will be notified by email or text message.

– There may be several reasons why some people receive their tax return later than others. We can't say anything about why exactly you didn't receive your statement. It could be anything from a complicated tax return to the fact that you've been selected for a random audit, says Nina Schanke Funnemark.

Most people receive their tax return between April and June, while some may have to wait until the fall. Everyone will receive their tax return before December 1.

After submitting the tax return, we must review it and prepare the tax return. Your tax return tells you how much money you will get back (til gode) or how much you will have to pay (restskatt).

If you receive back taxes, no you have to pay before the end of summer. You will receive the invoice well before the payment due date.
