The father of one of them found out how painful it is not to have parental control over a teenager. After he bought an iPad for his 14-year-old son, he installed the game "Clash of Clans" on it. During registration, however, he provided his credit card number on the device (Apple-id). The consequences of this soon turned out to be dire for the parent, which he cannot quite come to terms with.

Beautiful holiday, bad news

It is difficult to assess whether the father's mistake was not being aware of the possibility of limiting the use of a credit card or negligence. In any case, shortly after installing the game, the parent was notified by Eurocard that his the card was used multiple times for purchases in Norway. It is worth mentioning that this information came to him when he went on holiday to Spain.

More than common sense

As it turned out, in the period from June 26 to July 24, 2017, the teenager spent 89 crowns on purchases in the virtual store of the game "Clash of Clans". It should be mentioned that you can buy all kinds of bonuses there that make it easier to play the game, and thus help you win with other players. As it turned out, the desire to be better than other users was hard to restrain by the 14-year-old son.

Unable to recover

Apple has already refunded NOK 16 to his father. However, he is anxious to recover the entire amount spent by his unruly son. To this end, he lodged a complaint with the Financial Board of Appeal (nor. Finansklagenemnda). In the content of the complaint, he argued that he was not aware of the possibility of taking advantage of the limitation of the maximum amount spent, because he had not been informed about this fact.

However, the parent's decision was unfavorable to him. The Commission stated in it that he had deliberately violated the rules of using a credit card, allowing an unauthorized person to freely dispose of it. He voluntarily entered the card details in the Apple app, allowing his son to use the funds his father had on his account.

The Commission also refuted the argument that the parent had not been informed of the possibility to exercise parental control. As it was established, when downloading and installing the game "Clash of Clans", a message is always displayed informing about such a solution, as well as about the option of imposing a limit on the maximum amount that can be spent in the virtual store.
