Mandatory military conscription in 2018? The Ministry of National Defense answered this question. Our doubts arose in connection with the information that appeared on the Internet. A certain "Tygodnik Podhalański 24", founded on blogspot, announced that compulsory military conscription was starting. We decided to look into the matter and for this purpose we contacted the Polish Ministry of National Defense.

Compulsory conscription in 2018?

The aforementioned portal reported about it on October 16, 2017, but only now it has aroused considerable excitement on social media. The article shows that Elżbieta Witek revealed on TVN 24 in the "Wstańsz iWiedz" program that PiS was implementing a plan to reactivate universal military service. Compulsory military conscription would apply to all men born after 1998. However, the greatest controversy aroused the information that the call-up was to go to reservists who were once assigned group "D".

“The Polish army needs to be expanded”

Elżbieta Witek said on TVN 24 that: “The Polish armed forces need to be repaired or expanded. We must have a defensive army. We are not a country that intends to attack anyone, but we must have defense. We have very long borders. We really don't have enough troops to defend our borders. There is no conscription like there was a few years ago. Today, there are apparently over 30 young people who want to train themselves. We had to revert to compulsory conscription".

It would be catastrophic for the Polish community

Such a decision would be disastrous for the entire Polish community. It would mean that they had to return to Poland in order to complete their military service. For many of them, this would mean losing their jobs. It was not known whether they would receive compensation in such circumstances. So we decided to look at the matter and turned to the Polish Ministry of National Defense for this purpose.

– this is FAKE NEWS!

The spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense answered us as follows: “The Polish Army conducts constant, ongoing analysis of its resources, also in the context of the changing international situation. The current forms of military service, both voluntary and compulsory, ensure an appropriate number of candidates for service, they also make it possible to maintain the training level of military units at the appropriate level.. "

What does this mean in practice? Compulsory conscription is a myth. Nothing like this is happening and nothing is to be expected to change in this regard. We also decided to verify what Elżbieta Witek really said on TVN 24. We got to the fragment of the recording from which the statement was quoted on the above news portal. What did the politician really say?
