There was a great fire in two Swedish cities - Gothenburg and Trollhättan. Only in the first one, 88 cars were burned. According to the police, the action was probably coordinated. However, the perpetrators could not be identified. The search is still going on.

First arson attacks around 21:00

The first arson attacks took place yesterday around 21:00. Police received reports of a group of young masked men setting fire to cars in Hjaellbo, Gothenburg's northern district. Soon after, officers received a report of a similar incident in Froelund Square as well as in the city of Trollhättan - 75 km north of Gothenburg. However, that was not the end of the arson attacks - they also happened in the Gardsten district, north of Hjaellbo.

Still at 23:00, Claes Dahlstroem - a police inspector - in an interview with TV SVT spoke about 60 damaged vehicles. A little later, that number rose to 88 cars that were either burned down or otherwise damaged. In his opinion, the action could have been organized, as evidenced by the fact that the arson attacks took place in several different places at the same time. Swedish police have never dealt with such incidents before.

In Trollhättan, firefighters were pelted with stones

A dangerous incident took place during the fire extinguishing of cars in Trollhättan. The firefighters and the police who took part in the action were pelted with stones by the masked perpetrators. The police had to intervene, but the perpetrators were not caught. Despite the difficulties, the flames were extinguished by midnight.

Nobody was hurt

According to the assurances of the police, no one was injured. No one was arrested in connection with the case, but it cannot be ruled out that there will be detentions. The locations where the fires have occurred are being monitored, making it possible to identify the arsonists.

On Monday evening, there were also two fires each in Malmoe and Helsingborg. So far, it has not been established whether these events had anything to do with the arson attacks in Gothenburg and Trollhättan.
