The Emigration Museum in Gdynia will test Polish professionals

The Emigration Museum in Gdynia and the London-based PLUGin foundation are starting the “E-Emigration” project. Polish Technological Diaspora”, in which research will be conducted among representatives of the Polish professional community abroad. They want to find out who modern nomads and e-migrants are.

What is the test?

According to the project coordinators, Poles living abroad have contributed to the spectacular successes of global brands. They contributed to the implementation of products such as: Patek Phillipe watch, LRV lunar vehicle, Apple and Commodore computers, YouTube. Azimo, Booksy, Brainly, Growbots and UXPin applications and platforms. The Emigration Museum and the PLUGin foundation want to find out who are the Polish emigrants who decide to study, work or set up companies outside Poland. They are called "digital nomads" and also "e-migrants".

Polish Technological Diaspora

People who thrive in innovative areas of the economy are a special group of Polish emigrants. The driving force behind these industries are people with interdisciplinary skills, among whom Poles are an increasingly large group. The study will cover the following groups of people:

  • Poles or people with Polish roots living abroad,
  • working in innovative industries abroad,
  • professionals pursuing their global careers, but permanently living in Poland.

Emigration Museum in Gdynia. What does the examination look like?

The project was divided into two stages. In the first stage, quantitative research will be carried out. They consist of completing a survey with 30 questions. They relate to issues such as the identity of the emigrant, as well as his previous migration experience. The results will be presented during dedicated conferences and debates.

The second stage includes qualitative research that will take place in 2019. For this purpose, the in-depth interview method will be used. Selected people will be invited to make an audio or video recording. This will allow to deepen the information collected in the first stage of the study. It will also make it possible to get to know the respondents better, as well as to present representatives of the diaspora in the media.

How to participate

In order to participate in the study, you must first complete the questionnaire available at www.e-migracja.eu. The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
