A former NAV official was accused of repeated and illegal eavesdropping on neighbors. She used her position in the Office to collect information about neighbors, friends and family members. In this process, she used ICT systems to which she had access in her work.
The accused pleaded guilty
In court, a former NAV clerk, now a woman in her XNUMXs, pleaded guilty to the alleged acts. She also testified that she suspected her neighbors of illegally collecting social benefits and that the surveillance was aimed at revealing this practice. She also added that there had been a very bad relationship between her and her neighbors for a long time because of the dispute over the boundaries between their properties.

Not only the neighbors
The victims of the former clerk were not only her neighbors. She also illegally obtained information about people from her closest circle. They were both members of her family as well as friends and colleagues with their entire families. In total, the surveillance took place in 2014-2016 and during this time the woman obtained information about 50-70 people.
During the proceedings, the police printed the results of the defendant's searches. The list also included the names and surnames of famous footballers, chairmen of football clubs, sports coaches, and many other people who were more or less related to her family or friends.
Everyone is shocked
As one of the neighbors said in an interview with Nettavisen, she is shocked and surprised by the behavior of the clerk. At the same time, she felt indignant that the woman had acquired information that she should never have access to. Moreover, this information can be misused.

A clerk unmasked by her employer
The case came to light in February 2016. The clerk's activity was detected by the employer. She was initially suspended as an employee, but during the investigation it became clear that NAV had to terminate the contract with the woman. A month after the discovery, the accused was no longer an employee of the office.
She was a respected clerk
It is worth mentioning that the woman was a respected official who had extensive access to data collected by NAV. She had insight into, among others, to medical records, and was also able to check details of benefits received, such as sickness benefits and unemployment benefits. Currently, the accused has found employment in a completely different part country - this commune is located in the eastern part of Norway.
