By Christmas, 4000 NAV beneficiaries are required to pay a tax that has not been regulated by the Office. Untaxed benefit recipients will have an extremely difficult time before Christmas. It is about beneficiaries who have exceeded the tax-free amount.
"We apologize"
NAV officials apologize to those who encounter difficulties as a result of misconduct by the officials. As Magne Fladby claims in an e-mail sent to Aftenposten - "In 2018, no tax was paid for people who exceeded the tax-free amount. It was because of our mistake and we know it is a very unpleasant situation. "

Unemployment and rehabilitation benefits
Errors were made in relation to beneficiaries receiving unemployment benefits. In total, the problem affects about 4 people for whom it is preparing a difficult financial period before Christmas. They will have to pay the overdue tax before December 000th.
They will fix the error
NAV will take action to correct the error. For this purpose, each month the Office will collect an additional amount of tax from subsequent payments. All this in order to pay all outstanding amounts to the Norwegian Tax Office by Christmas. According to parliamentarian Karin Andersen (SV), this may cause problems with finalizing the budget home of many people.

– “It is truly outrageous – both because such an error occurred at all and because of the reduction in subsequent benefits paid. The pre-Christmas period is always harder from an economic point of view and the prices are lower benefits further complicates the situation for many people. Beneficiaries who did not detect the error themselves have probably already used up all the benefits paid," says Karin Andersen in an interview with Nettavisen.
Should such errors take place?
The question whether such errors should take place at all in the operation of NAV remains a controversial issue. Responsibility for the mistake that has occurred seems to be the most controversial. As a rule, people receiving rehabilitation allowance and cash benefits for the unemployed have a difficult financial situation. What's more - it is difficult for private individuals to detect clerical errors on their own. Therefore, it is debatable to make them responsible for the mistakes behind the officials.
