Bathroom renovation in Norway - what does it look like? What is worth remembering? What are våtrom rooms? What is våtromsnorm? We provide answers to these and other questions in the cyclical broadcast Poles Build Norway by Paweł Boruń from Soluton AS and Radio Wataha. The guest of the broadcast was Dominik Wojtyczka.

Bathroom renovation in Norway - Våtrom

Dominik Wojtyczka works as projectionist in a Norwegian company. Every day he deals with coordination renovations våtrom premises. which can be translated literally as "wet rooms". Most often these are the bathrooms.

Dominik Wojtyczka in his work is responsible for all activities in such a way that bathroom renovation in Norway was carried out in accordance with the art of construction. She has been with the client since concept, by arrangement technical documentation after workmanship i pickups.

The room as a separate area

Contrary to the Polish reality, bathroom renovation in Norway is a separate field of construction. There is even a separate standard on våtrom premises. This is mainly due to the fact that they are inscribed in the wooden structures of the house, most often used in Norwegian construction.

It is not without significance that insurance companies take note of the insurance about 200 floods every day. For this reason, it was decided to create appropriate legal conditions that were to contribute to improving the quality workmanship bathrooms. For this reason, this type of construction work has more specialized character than in Poland.

Våtromsnorm - how does it work?

Vatromsnorm valid for wet rooms. In Norwegian legislation, rooms are called such that:

"They have a drain grate, have a slope from the drain grate, have a water supply and protect the structure against water"

For such a room does not come up e.g. a toilet with a sink and a toilet, but no floor drain. It is worth emphasizing that våtromsnorm it covers virtually all construction and installation elements that are found in modern homes. Executing specialist renovation of the wet room it has to do with the construction of walls, floors, roofs, electrical installation as well as sanitary installation.

What if we don't apply the standard?

It is worth emphasizing that when deciding on bathroom renovation in Norway not included in the definition wet room, the above standard does not apply to us. However, it is worth following it, because improperly performed works will result in leakage of the installation and, consequently, flooding of the neighbors.

A problematic situation may also arise at the time of sale. The apartment buyer may, for example, contact us after a year of time and present all the irregularities he noticed over time bathroom use. Failure to meet the standard may result in lower performance value of the property when appraised by an appraiser.

How much should the bathroom withstand?

The most common practice is to provide a 10-year warranty on bathrooms. Nevertheless, it is estimated that a well-constructed room should maintain all parameters of tightness in the period from 12 to 20 years old. Therefore, the performance of works in accordance with the applicable standards is important - it may turn out that a poorly performed service will bring results flooding the apartment after 5 years.

Bathroom renovation in Norway on your own

It's worth knowing that though bathroom renovation in Norway is treated as a separate construction field, in practice we can do this on our own. We should only have to do electrical work permissions. However, all work related to hydraulics we can do it on our own. However, this is not a recommended action. Especially when, for example, the apartment is flooded.

If the insurer sees that we have done most of the construction work ourselves, it will begin to look for irregularities in construction art. As a rule, such entities cooperate with well-versed appraisers. If detected gross runtime errors, we may be denied compensation.
