The import of Norwegian fish to various regions of the world increases every year. The problem is so serious that politicians and those in power have become interested in it. Fisheries Minister Harald T. Nesvik wants to organize fishing tourism in the coming months. What is hidden behind this statement? The number of fish sent to other countries is to be clearly defined by regulations and, above all, limited. If international trade continues in the same direction as it is now, there may simply be a shortage of fish soon. Are we aware of this? Tightening the regulations related to their export is the only right solution at the moment.

Smuggled fish from Norway - the problem is serious ...

“It has become a big problem for us to export huge amounts of fish outside Norway. Those who do so are not necessarily registered as customers of tourist fishing companies. Therefore, one of the proposed changes to the rules is that only tourists who have fished with registered tourist fishing companies will be allowed to take the fish out of the country. " - this is the opinion provided by Harald T. Nesvik, Minister of Fisheries and Sea Resources (MMF).

A special debate took place on Monday. The Ministry of Trade and Fisheries proposed an application and specific, long-term changes in fishing / tourist angling. The government's proposals are as follows.

  • The export of fish from the country is to be allowed only to those who have caught fish with registered fishing tourist companies.
  • The scope of the changes will also apply to the allowed form of fish export. Instead of the previously permitted fish fillet, the government proposes that only whole gutted and headed fish be allowed to be exported. This is to prevent wastage of resources by unskillful filleting.
  • The obligations of tourist fishing companies will be clearly defined. In addition, the obligation to report catches will be an important aspect.

Tourist fishing is an important part of the Norwegian economy ...

Let's summarize. What else do we know? Will the talks being conducted by the authorities be effective? A debate on this topic is needed. This economic space is still developing. In addition, it should be noted that all trends are very promising. Norway cannot lose something that makes it so unique.
