Car accident at the Halsnøyt tunnel

On December 22, 2017, a car accident occurred in the Halsnøyt tunnel. The car was traveling at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour. There were four people in the rear seat of the vehicle. The driver recently stood trial.

Accident in the Halsnøyt submarine tunnel

On December 22 last year there was an unfortunate accident. In the Halsnøyt submarine tunnel in Kvinnherad a car crashed, carrying as many as six people. Unfortunately, five of them were seriously injured and taken to hospital immediately. As many as three helicopters took part in the rescue operation. Accident it was caused by a young man who was then 20 years old.

Serious injuries

The driver's passengers were all young men, whose age ranged from 19 to 22 years. Unfortunately accident led to their serious damage. The perpetrator of the accident, who is accused of driving too fast and having too many passengers in the car, suffered skull fracture injuries, blood clotting in the brain and constant ear deafness. Of the rest of the injured passengers, one had a punctured lung and another had a spleen. They all spent about a month in the hospital and underwent several operations.

Legal Consequences

The boy who led to the entire incident, apart from the injuries he suffered on his body, must also take the punishment of the court. The man met at a hearing in Sunnhordland District Court last week and did not receive a mitigation. It was judged that his driving was too dangerous and the number of passengers was too high. He was sentenced to 26 days in prison and his driving license was taken from him for 20 months. Additionally, after this time, the perpetrator will have to pass the driving test again. The police admitted that the driver at such high speed probably lost control of the car. During the accident, the car hit the tunnel on its opposite side twice, where the car finally landed on the right side of the road.

The opinion of the judge

During the hearing, the judge did not hide the fact that it was an accident consequence of grossly dangerous driving young driver. Additionally, it was reported that a major reason for the loss of vehicle control could have been the right-side overload of the vehicle. It was caused by overloading the car with too many passengers. Accident fortunately, it did not lead to the death of these young people. The judgment is to be a lesson for the driver. The judge called that this accident should also be a warning for many young drivers because such events do not always have to end "happily" like here.
