Although this activity is behind us, it is worth knowing who is really bringing us gifts. It turns out that in many places around the world, not only Santa gives us gifts. A star, an Angel, or maybe a Child? 

Gifts, oh those gifts!

The holidays are still going on, but some activities are already behind us. Giving gifts is one of the many traditions that has been adopted during the Christmas period. Christmas Eve consisting of 12 obligatory dishes, breaking a wafer, singing Christmas carols together and ... giving gifts! The question, however, is who actually brings them to us? Some will say that Saint Nicholas, others that Santa Claus, and still others that Angel. How is it really? Let's clear these doubts!

Dear Santa Claus

Fat, elderly gentleman with a beard, wearing a characteristic red clothes trimmed with golden thread, celebrates his holiday on December 6. He comes to us in a sleigh powered by a group of reindeer, and he enters our house through the chimney. It happens, however, that in many corners of the world, most children believe that gifts left under the Christmas tree are also his doing. In fact, the effect of the gifts delivered on December 24 by St. Nicholas is an effect of globalization, but is it important? It is important that the children believe, and this is all the magic of Christmas.

Or maybe Gwiazdor?

In Poland, in the Kuyavian region, the Lubuskie region and in Greater Poland, she brings gifts to children Star. It is a figure wearing a sheepskin and a large fur hat. His face, however, was always stained with soot. In the past, his presence could bring a lot of stress to children, because he was always accompanied by a rod that punished naughty kids. In addition, he carried a sackcloth full of gifts, but before giving it to a child, he had previously questioned the prayer. 

A star and her kind heart 

In many homes, it is she who brings Christmas presents. However, before she was awarded this honor, the Christmas Eve gift was called a star. Currently, Christmas is considered a girl who, dressed in a white outfit, wanders around and leaves us beautiful gifts under the Christmas tree. Many homes also believe that Christmas brings money. According to the Christmas tradition, after the Christmas Eve dinner, children place empty mugs in front of the door, so that after a while Christmas can fill them with some symbolic amount of money.

Angel and Child

In the area of ​​Upper Silesia, no one other than the Child reigns. Of course, we are talking about Jesus. This tradition came to Silesia from the Czech Republic itself, and most interestingly, in every real, traditional, Silesian house, on Christmas Eve, nobody wants to hear about St. Nicholas. Santa brings gifts to the children, but only on December 6. And the Angel? Here, the inhabitants of Małopolska and Podkarpacie believe that he is the creator of all the gifts that we can find under the Christmas tree. Who brings you gifts?
