Estimates of prevailing poverty around the world can be shocking. As every year, Oxfam has presented a report that says one thing: "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer."
The deepening economic gap
Oxfam is an international humanitarian organization that reports annually to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The report covers, among other things, the widespread poverty among people all over the world. What does this year's report show? The wealth of billionaires grows! Last year alone, the wealth of 2,2 thousand billionaires increased by 900 billion dollars. After conversion, it turns out that it grew by actually 2,5 billion dollars. daily. Unfortunately, when the rich got richer, the poor got poorer. Last year, the poor part of the world impoverished by as much as 11% compared to the data from 2017. Taking into account the results, there is only one conclusion: the economic gap is widening.

The number of billionaires has doubled
The results are worrying as it turns out that 10 years after the financial crisis, the world has twice as many billionaires. The years 2017-2018 were quite surprising. During this time, someone became a billionaire every other day in the world. However, it must be remembered that only a few dozen people have the largest estates in the world. In 2018, only 26 people owned assets of 3,8 billion people from the poorer part of the world.

Wrong way of running the economy
According to Oxfam, many countries have very poor state economies. This allows a selected group of people, often called privileged people, to concentrate and become rich. Meanwhile, we forget about the millions of people who are hungry, they do not have basic care medical, or do not have access to education. Matthew Spencer, director of Oxfam, says "no one should be condemned to an early death or a life of illiteracy just because they were born poor."

Low taxes are a problem
We already know that the richest have become much richer in recent years. Unfortunately, it turns out that those with the largest sums of money in their accounts pay very low taxes. In a few countries such as the UK or Brazil, regardless of whether you are rich or poor, you pay a 10% tax. The authors of the report claim that if the situation does not change and the richer do not start paying more taxes, there is no chance of improving the situation among the poorest.
