Living in the Land of Fjords requires the Norwegian Polish community to know not only where to find a job, what rates apply and in which industries it is best to find employment. Many of us use cars on a daily basis, and for this reason it is worth knowing what road rules are in force in Norway. Even if you have lived here for many years, it is worth remembering some of them.

Speed limit in Norway

Basic road rules in Norway apply primarily the maximum permissible speed. It is worth starting with this issue - especially since the law in this area is slightly different from what we are used to in Poland.

  • As in our homeland, the maximum speed in built-up areas is 50 km / h. The exception are areas near housing estates, where this limit can be reduced even to 30 km / h.
  • However, the road rules in Norway are different outside built-up areas, where drivers are allowed a maximum speed of 80 km / h. This limit does not apply to cars with a trailer without brakes and is correspondingly lower.
  • Cars and those that do not exceed 3,5 tons of maximum load capacity can move on expressways at a speed of 90 km/h. Heavier vehicles or vehicles equipped with a semi-trailer cannot exceed 80 km/h.
  • On motorways, the maximum speed limit is 110 km/h. However, this provision applies only passenger cars and cars not exceeding 3,5 tons of load capacity. Other vehicles cannot exceed 80 km/h.

Other road rules in Norway

Drivers moving around Norwegian roads must remember to turn on their dipped headlights all year round. All passengers they must have seat belts are also fastened and this requirement also applies to passengers who occupy rear seats. Provided that the vehicle is equipped with such protection.

Car equipment

Worth knowingthat road regulations in Norway distinguish basically two elements of compulsory equipment. These are: at least one reflective vest and a warning triangle. However, it is recommended that the car also have: a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a set of spare bulbs, a spare wheel and a tow rope.
