Piggdekkgebyr these are the charges incurred for entering certain cities on studded tires. Currently, we have to pay if we want to enter piggdeks to cities such as Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim. How much are they?
Piggdekkgebyr - what is it?
Piggdekkgebyr is a fee that some Norwegian cities charge for entering their area with cars equipped with studded tires. Basically riding on piggdeks is allowed in Norway. Such cities, however, as Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim require users of such tires to purchase a vignette allowing entry. Otherwise, we will pay a heavy fine.

Piggdekkgebyr - how much is it?
Although the height piggdekkgebyr in Norway is determined individually by each city, in practice, the same amount of fees applies everywhere. Stewards Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim agreed piggdekkgebyr at the following level:
- 1400 NOK for the entire winter season,
- 450 NOK per month or
- 35 NOK per night.
The pricelist is valid for vehicles that are less than 3500 kg. In case of trucks the entry fee for studded tires is double the rate. Therefore piggdekkgebyr for trucks it is the cost of the order:
- 2800 NOK for the entire winter season,
- 450 NOK per month or
- 35 NOK for one night.
Fine for not having piggdekkgebyr
It is strongly recommended not to buy a vignette. The fine for failure to do so is NOK 750. However, if we decide to ride on piggdeks out of season, the fine can be as high as NOK 1000. It is also worth keeping an eye on the tread depth, because failure to meet the standards will cost us 750 NOK for each wrong tire.
IMPORTANT! For cars up to 3500 kg, the tread depth must be at least 3 mm, and for trucks - 5 mm.

Piggdekk in Norway - since when?
Season on piggdekki in Norway it generally starts on two different dates. In the north of the country studded tires can be mounted from October 15th and driving on them is allowed until May 1st. In turn, in the south, the season is valid from November 1 and lasts until the first Monday after Easter - that is, in 2019 it will be April 22.
