On 17 May, Norwegian Constitution Day is celebrated in Norway. It is a statutory day off from work. As it happens, however, there are industries in which you have to be in a position regardless of holidays and such circumstances. May 17 is very important for the Norwegians - that's why you have to be really well paid for working on this day. Read the text and find out how much you can earn by working on this day.

Service industries are best profitable

You can earn the best in typical service industries - from 50 to even 100 percent of the daily rate:

  • The hotel and catering industry, employees working in this space work on the basis of contracts of the Norwegian Federation of Trade Unions (Fellesfobundet). Therefore, they can count on a 100% higher rate - in the best cases, where the employee came to work at the express request of the boss, we can talk about 200%.
  • Trade and shops are closed. However, in special cases (small shops, kiosks, gas stations) depending on trade union membership employees can count on 50% more rate or in some cases 100%.
  • Healthcare, there is no question of being free here - this is the nature of work. Medical workers (ambulance workers, nurses, etc.) can count on at least 100% higher rate and an allowance in the form of days off at a different time.
  • Transport and Security - usually 100% of the rate.

An important holiday for Norwegians and not only ...

May 17th is important day for Norwegians. If you can take some time off from work (and it's a good year this year a long weekend) don't hesitate. Relax, get some distance from everyday life. Set aside some time for loved ones and family.
