The tax for large-format stores in Poland will soon become a fact. This was assured today by the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology Jadwiga Emilewicz. To be precise, it announced the introduction of an alternative to a trade tax. This tax would apply to large-format stores. In an interview with Radio Zet, the minister said: We have prepared a tax solution that was introduced last year, for example in Spain. We will want this tax because it does not raise any doubts.

However, the tax and its concept are under discussion in the European Commission. What exactly does the tax in question include? According to Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz, it will be a tax introduced only and exclusively on large-format stores. Moreover, it will not be charged on the turnover, but from the difficulties that such a store will create in a given urban tissue. It all sounds very intricate. It is not known what exactly will be included in the concept of difficulties mentioned by Jadwiga Emilewicz. According to the minister, it is mainly about traffic jams or more funds allocated to road investments. So, speaking of such factors, how will such a tax be calculated? The Minister assures that a special algorithm has been created for this purpose, which will allow the calculation of such a tax.
When will the changes come into effect?

According to the information we have obtained, it will certainly not happen by the end of 2019. At the earliest, the tax may be introduced at the beginning of January 2020, however, this is not certain.

It raises many doubts and for several days there have been intensive discussions about it in the European Commission.
