Drunk road pirates. It cannot be denied that the statistics are terrifying. Every day, many innocent people die on Polish roads due to the irresponsibility of drunk drivers. A few days ago, Prime Minister Morawiecki declared that a comprehensive plan to radically improve road safety will be one of the priorities of the new government. Politicians want a significant tightening of penalties for road pirates and changes in regulations. The guilty parties are to pay for the treatment of the injured. When will the changes come into force and what will it look like in practice?

Drunk road pirates - a hot topic ...

This topic is again in the foreground after a fatal accident in Warsaw, which happened recently at a pedestrian crossing. It is worth recalling here that in 2018 370 people died on Polish roads, and about 3 were injured in accidents caused by people under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants. Politicians want the perpetrators to pay for the treatment of their victims.

We are submitting a draft amendment to the act under which every driver driving a vehicle under under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, if he causes an accident, he will bear much greater responsibility than today” (…).

“He will be obliged to cover the costs of treatment of the injured person, and if health damage occurs, he will cover the costs of treatment, rehabilitation of the injured person and his own. Penalties need to be tightened, fines in Poland need to be increased and we really need to take preventive measures to avoid situations in which people drive under the influence of alcohol. We need to say stop to drunk drivers," Kosiniak-Kamysz announced.

How to fight road pirates?

Attention children - change of speed at schools ...

Drunk road pirates. Politicians also want to put emphasis on the spaces next to schools. They proposed 30 km/h next to schools and significant tightening penalties for breaking these regulations. The loss of penalty points must be more severe to make Polish drivers think twice. Today, unfortunately, many drivers, even after losing points, do not have the ability to reflect on their behavior. This has to change.
