. A few days ago, the Norwegian Central Statistics Bureau (SSB) published a new report on the unemployment rate among immigrants. As it turns out, the differences in statistics are very large. Depending on the country of origin. In the third quarter, a total of 5,5 percent of immigrants were unemployed in the fjord country. This is a decrease of 0,4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2018. Comparing it to other inhabitants of the country, unemployment amounted to 1,7 percent and has not changed compared to last year.

Immigrants: high unemployment rate - looking at the statistics closely ...

It is worth noting that when creating its reports, the SSB shows the level of unemployment, taking into account different parts of the world. From Europe, Asia, Africa. Undoubtedly, the highest unemployment rate was recorded among immigrants from Africa (9,6 percent). Among Asians, unemployment was at 6,2 percent. The lowest unemployment can still be observed among the natives of the Scandinavian countries. Here, unemployment is 2,3%.

Unemployment in Norway - where do the differences come from?

Undoubtedly, Scandinavians have no problem finding a job. The unemployment rate among people of this origin is very low. The greatest problems with finding a permanent job are observed among citizens of Asia and Africa. It seems that the statistics may be influenced, among other things, by the lack of necessary education and skills that are valued by employers. Of course, knowledge of the language is also a barrier. It cannot be denied that there are many places where you can find a job without knowing Norwegian. Not all entrepreneurs and company managers require the use of Norwegian. This applies primarily to typically physical and physical professions construction industry, carpentry, etc. However, fluent use of Norwegian is very helpful when looking for a better job. Moreover, it cannot be denied that Europeans are more willing to learn languages.

African immigrants and the traditional family model….

In conclusion, it is also worth paying attention to the refugee status and cultural differences. Among the African peoples, the family model is still at the beginning of the day, where the man is the working one and the woman stays at home with the children. Religious attachment and social norms cultivated for many years are not without significance here.
