.All private kindergartens in Oslo will receive iodine tablets. This is the action announced by the mayor of Oslo. Its aim is to strengthen the immunity of children who attend kindergartens. Iodine tablets in private kindergartens are intended to increase the safety of children in the event of a nuclear event. Iodine tablets for the youngest are to be available in all private kindergartens in Oslo by the end of January.

Iodine tablets are to be distributed first to private kindergartens. Ultimately, however, they will be administered to children in all educational institutions where children stay - including schools. Children up to 16 years of age cannot take such pills unless facility staff receive written consent from the child's parents or guardians.

Initially, iodine tablets for children will only be distributed in Oslo. However, it is planned to administer them in the longer term children in all municipalities In Norway. However, this process may take several months. This is dictated primarily by compliance with all necessary procedures related to this.

Iodine tablets in Norway not only for children

In Norway, iodine tablets are available over the counter. It is recommended that not only children start taking them, but also adults. According to the latest data on the sale of this type of tablets, in the period from January to November last year, nearly 30 packages of such tablets were sold in Norway. The vast majority, however, were tablets of 10 tablets - over 28. Most likely, this state of affairs is a result of the popularity of the HBO series "Chernobyl".
