Students will receive their diplomas even if there is no written exam this year, says Education Minister Guri Melby (V).
The Ministry of Education and Research continues to work on solutions for students and pupils.
- It is important for me that this situation does not ruin the students' future. I know many students were stressed out and unsure whether to take the exam or not. As a teacher, I know that it is important that students and teachers receive explanations as early as possible. By dropping written exams, teachers have more time to teach and a good final grade, says Melby.
. Feedback letters sent
Both the Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Education have sent messages to School-Norway in recent weeks about an additional comment regarding the grading system. These were preparations for a possible cancellation of the exam.
This appeal is now being made public the day after it has been announced that schools will be closed until Easter, at least April 13.
Assessments represent around 80 percent of students' reports and reflect the long-term competence of students.
Provides dosing
The Department of Education and Research will grant a general exemption from the written exam grade requirements for graduates of grades VG3 and 10 in primary school.
Melby says that when it comes to oral exams at school average, the decision will be made after Easter.
To obtain a diploma, everyone must graduate from school and pass subjects. A prerequisite is that all students have the opportunity to learn at home, so that teachers have a good basis for assessing students' efforts.
