There has been a fairly large increase in the number of jobseekers in Norway over the past week. In total, there are 194 fully unemployed, partially unemployed and jobseekers registered in Nav.

The sharp increase is mainly due to more layoffs as a result of stringent infection control measures. Regions with the highest growth include Oslo, Bergen and Viken. In the last week, an average of one new person registered with Nav as a jobseeker every minute, says director of Employment and Social Services Hans Christian Holte in a press release.

Preliminary data show that 106 registered people are registered as fully unemployed. This is 700 percent of the workforce. The number of partially unemployed increased by 3,8, while 200 more jobseekers benefited from the Nav measures.

Oslo layoffs are increasing the most, with 2000 new ones. Oslo is followed by Viken and Vestland with 1200 and 600 layoffs respectively. Nav combines increased layoffs with more stringent infection control measures in these areas. The largest increases last week were recorded in the tourism and transport sectors, as well as in service and other jobs, from which 2800 and 900 were dismissed, respectively, reports Nav.

According to Nav, people who give this as the reason dismissal they now constitute 67% of new job seekers. That's up from 55% last week.
