An ID card is an identity card that you can use when you need to identify yourself.

For now, only Norwegian citizens will be able to apply for it, and the possession of a national identity document is voluntary.

It is possible to obtain a national travel ID card, so you can also use it as a travel document (same as a passport) when traveling to EEA countries and Switzerland.

According to the plan, it will be possible to apply for an ID card from November 30, 2020. You will be able to make an appointment with the police to apply for an ID card, as well as for a passport.
