Cars that are parked incorrectly constantly create problems for traffic, especially in cities. Every year, about 800 so-called Control sanctions. This includes fees of NOK 000 or NOK 300 and it applies to everything. From forgetting to leave information for free parking in the mall, to standing too long outside of paid time.

More serious cases, such as unauthorized parking in disabled places or violations of the Road Traffic Act, are punishable by a fee of NOK 900.

This was established by new parking regulations, which entered into force on January 1, 2017. The new regulations also effectively stopped uncontrolled development parking companies in Norway.

Accumulation of parking fines. Limit of 6000 crowns

The number of control sanctions clearly shows that incorrect parking is a problem. At the same time, with the growing number of cars and the expansion of cities, there is little indication that this problem will disappear immediately.

What many may not gain from the new parking regulations is the so-called 6000 kronor rule. It simply means that the parking company can actually take over the car when the sum of unpaid parking fees for the same person exceeds NOK 6000. The car will then not be returned until the amount due is fully paid.

Twice as much this year

- Seizure of the car often?

- No, it doesn't happen very often. In 2019, we had seven cases, says Myhr.
