Oslo vaccination plan: we expect 63 vaccines per week

If the Pfizer vaccine is approved, this is how we will allocate doses.

Vaccines Could Arrive Sooner Than Expected: If the Pfizer vaccine is approved which is due on December 23rd.

The first shipment of doses is 40-000 vaccines, says Vaccine Coordinator Richard Bergström. Originally the number was around 50.

For practical reasons, the first 10 doses are used in the Oslo area, while the remaining doses will be distributed in accordance with NIPH recommendations and throughout the country.

- I am glad that we are getting even more doses of vaccines for Christmas. These doses should in principle be sufficient to give the first dose to all residents of nursing homes in Norway, said Prime Minister Erna Solberg in a press release on Friday.

In total, the capital has 559 residents over the age of 768 who will be offered vaccines in two doses.

Based on the FHI rating, approximately 75 percent of people who are offered the vaccines will get them. The commune will have to distribute 839 doses of the vaccine. She is likely to receive around 652 doses of the vaccine in the first 250 months of 000.

Multiple doses on the way

It was Bergström who has now negotiated many more vaccine doses for Norway.

The calculation of the number of vaccines for Norway in the coming weeks will be as follows:

  • 40-50 at Christmas
  • 40000 in the first week
  • 40000 in the second week

This means that we can receive 17 doses by January 130th.

Lots of vaccines in January

– The latest information I have received is that we expect Norway to have around 160 doses in Norway until January 10. They have to they should be distributed throughout the country, says Robert Steen.

This means Oslo can expect 10 percent of them, around 16 doses, which translates to 000 people.

"Then the question is how to distribute them."

As there are so few doses, logistics becomes the most important criterion. It may be appropriate to start with the highest birth rates in the 85+ age group.

- Will you consider vaccinating these neighborhoods with high infection pressure first?

- We haven't made such a decision yet. We follow a priority regulation set by the authorities. Then the question is whether we in the different groups can go to the most infected areas first. This can make a bigger difference when we get more vaccines.

Vaccination step by step

Oslo divides vaccination into four stages:

  1. 4100 Oslo residents are vaccinated in nursing homes. Vaccination in this group seems to begin before the new year, depending on when the vaccine is approved and used in the country.
  2. Elderly people over 65, a group of approximately 80 inhabitants. The commune will start with the oldest and then subsequent age ranges, divided into five-year segments.
  3. Residents ages 18-64 who are at risk of serious illness and death are being offered the vaccine. At this stage primary care doctors will be able to participate to a greater extent in work on vaccinations.
  4. Other residents over 18 years of age will be vaccinated in the final phase. This is approximately 470 Oslo residents aged 000-18. (including people from risk groups). It will probably not be earlier than summer 66.

Creates permanent vaccination sites

The City of Oslo will establish a vaccination site in each district to ensure adequate population proximity. Each vaccination site must be able to provide up to 4200 vaccinations per week, depending on the size of the district and age composition.

This is equivalent to 3 lines, 2 shifts, 7 days a week. At maximum speed, that's 63 vaccines a week.

The vaccine achieves 100 doses per shift - and has seven vaccinations all the time.

To ensure sufficient efficiency, should the municipality receive larger quantities of vaccines at the same time, the municipality will consider whether up to four larger vaccination centers should be established.

In total, in the first half of 2021, there will be Norway 2,5 million doses, a significant part of which in the first quarter. This is enough to vaccinate 1,25 million Norwegians, which is 70 percent of all at-risk people and medical personnel who come into contact with patients.
