New deaths and situations involving uncontrolled infections are leading municipalities to ask for stricter national measures.

In a press release in Haugesund City Hall on Tuesday, Haugesund Mayor Arne Christian Mohn explained the situation in the area.

- Today we reported to the national authorities that we want to tighten the restrictions even further. In all seven municipalities of Haugalandet, Mohn said.

The requests came after it was reported that two people from Haugesund had died on Sunday and Monday. Mohn said the situation has developed so quickly that the measures already put in place are not enough.

Pressure - National measures required

The government therefore introduced regional measures for the seven municipalities of Haugalandet at the request of the municipalities.

– Municipalities in the Haugesund area have an unstable infection situation. The ability to track infections is under pressure and large numbers of people are under quarantine, writes the Ministry of Health and Care in a press release.

The measures are in force from midnight on the night of 16 p.m. to 17 p.m March and until Sunday, April 11 inclusive. The new rating will remain carried out before the expiry of the measures.

In Haugesund municipality alone, 27 new cases of infection were detected on Tuesday, more than ever before in the pandemic and almost doubled from the day before. In addition, 982 people are in quarantine and 116 in isolation.

"More and more cases of infection involve the English variant of the virus, and several of them have an unknown route of infection," writes the Ministry of Health.

The hospital in Haugesund had to cut back on planned surgeries due to the coronavirus on Monday. Five coronavirus patients have now been admitted here - the most since the beginning of April last year.
