Domestic measures from before Easter will be withdrawn from Friday. Strict measures will still apply in areas with high infection pressure.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Minister for Education and Integration Guri Melby and Minister for Children and Family Kjell Ingolf Ropstad met at a press conference on Tuesday.

Also present were Director Bjørn Guldvog at the Norwegian Health Directorate and the Director of Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health.

"We are now starting the re-opening," says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

- We keep going up the stairs to the first step. He says that we are currently reversing some of the measures introduced before Easter.

Solberg goes on to say that infection rates are now lower than before Easter, and the number of patients admitted to intensive care units has also decreased.

The progress of the re-opening will be assessed after three checkpoints; contamination situation and disease burden, health system opportunities and vaccination status.

  • Up to 5 people in private homes
  • Serving alcohol until 22, with the requirements for catering services
  • You can organize events that only bring together people from one municipality
  • The recommended distance is changed back to 1 meter from 2 meters
  • Up to 100 people for private events such as cultural and sporting events, conferences and church services, where everyone is seated in fixed, designated areas
  • Up to 200 people at open-air events, but 200 people from a maximum of 3 environments if the audience is seated in fixed, designated areas

- From Friday, the following measures will apply at national level.

We encourage you to limit your social contacts, and especially to meetings outside. There can be a maximum of five people in private homes, says Solberg.

It also means that the national ban on serving alcohol in the bar is over.

The government also maintains its recommendations to avoid unnecessary domestic travel, especially when it comes to traveling from a high infection area to a low infection area.

“Everyone now has to act according to what concerns them locally. Many municipalities already have stricter measures than national measures, says Solberg.

Solberg goes on to say that another assessment will be carried out in early May.
