Oslo's public transport prices will go up. The Oslo City Council comes up with this idea. Despite this, MDG still announces a reduction in prices. Surely many of us will ask the question at this point: what about election promises? Are they already falling into the shadows? The differences of opinion vary. One party claims that the increases are a necessity for the good of the economy, the other party emphasizes that only a reduction in prices and a new timetable will encourage the residents of Oslo to give up the car for public transport, e.g. on the way to work. What is the situation at the moment? What are the experts saying?

Oslo public transport prices and disputes

To better understand the situation, we need to look at the Oslopakke 3 urban transport development program for 2020-2023, a total of CZK 164 million has been allocated to the construction of Fornebubanen and the new signaling and safety infrastructure for the metro. Ruter emphasizes that it does not have the financial resources to finance public transport. The City Council did not want to raise the prices of city tickets, but the Akershus circle disagreed. Effect? Ticket prices in 2020 must be raised - at this time, an additional annual income of 82 million crowns is needed.

Oslo public transport ticket prices - what about election promises?

“MDG, the second-largest party in the city council, went to the elections with the slogan of reducing the price of public transport tickets by 20 percent. And what do we see in the budget assumptions for next year? A 5 percent increase in prices. This is a serious breach of the election promise and taking the wrong path. " - emphasized Bjercke in an interview with Nettavisen.

How to encourage the residents of Oslo to use public transport?

Oslo's public transport ticket prices will increase. Unfortunately, this is not a good way to convince city residents to use public transport. What would convince them:

  • reduction of ticket prices,
  • a large selection of attractive passes - daily, weekly, monthly,
  • greater accessibility of public transport in the place of residence,
  • greater frequency of urban transport services.
