Health Director Bjørn Guldvog believes that the high level of vaccination in Norway could make us one of the first countries in the world to achieve herd immunity.

The health director says he is not sure how the coronavirus situation will develop in the coming months as we have no other countries to make a comparison by.

- There is no country that would achieve population immunity that would ensure resolution of Covid-19 infection. We may be among the first in the world to achieve this with the large number of vaccines in the population.

However, he points out that this is uncertain.

Vaccination of 16- and 17-year-olds

Before the weekend, 3 Norwegian residents received the first dose of the vaccine. 797 people received the second dose.

70,4% of the population received the first dose and 46,4% of the population are fully vaccinated.

For the population over 18, it is 88,7% and 58,5%, respectively.

The government decided last week that 16- and 17-year-olds will be offered the vaccine after the population over 18 has been fully vaccinated.

Norway may be the first country in the world to achieve herd immunity. Normal everyday life with increased readiness

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health expects everyone to receive the second dose of vaccine within 35 weeks . The last date in week 35 is September 5. The government had previously announced that everyday life will become more normal in the coming month .

Health director Guldvog does not rule out that local epidemics may appear in autumn as a result of infected children and unvaccinated adults. But, according to Guldvog, this is unlikely.

- I think in September or October we will most likely be able to move on to step 4 in the plan to reopen our daily life, with increased readiness in September or October.
