Language studies in Norway. The government allows four years of study in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic.
- In our global world, we need more people with high competences in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic. These are demanding studies and languages that take a long time to master. Often, students have to spend long periods abroad after graduation, or complete their entire studies abroad. As a result, they will reach the language level expected by the employer. In conclusion, we invite universities and colleges to submit applications for the creation of four-year studies with these linguists - says Minister of Science and Higher Education Henrik Asheim (Right).
Models of studies
The main model in Norway, as in Europe, is the three-year bachelor's and two-year's master's programs. Longer undergraduate studies should be established at universities and colleges that wish to provide such a language offer. The goal is to improve performance and ensure that students acquire the ultimate skills they need. The Norwegian Humanities Report resulted in the decision to take longer language studies.
First of all, we invite institutions wishing to offer four-year undergraduate studies in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic to apply in this topic.
The usual rules for the accreditation of study offers still apply, and the funding of studies is carried out as usual through the funding system and different rates for different types of study . It is universities and colleges that shape their own study offers. Funding is assessed differently in relation to the annual budget arrangements.
