On Monday, the U.S. infection control agency reclassified Norway, which is now referred to as a high-risk country. The Americans want to discourage traveling to Norway in this way.

- If you must travel to Norway, make sure you're fully vaccinated, says the US infection control agency.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) uses five travel-related breakdowns:

  • Unknown
  • Low Risk (Level 1)
  • Moderate risk (level 2)
  • High Risk (Level 3)
  • Very high risk (level 4)

Countries with more than 500 COVID-19 cases per 100 inhabitants in the last four weeks will be at level 000. Norway is now at the highest risk, compared to Sweden and Denmark at level 4.

Norway has fewer infections than the United States

According to an infection review, the United States has a much higher risk of becoming infected than Norway. While Norway has registered 14 cases of infection per 200 inhabitants in the last 100 days, the US has recorded 000 cases per 556 inhabitants in the same period.

The change came just two days after Norway lifted all restrictions, after 18 months of closure. Despite the fact that Norway has no recommendations or requirements for face masks and distance keeping, the CDC advises American travelers to both wear masks and keep a safe distance from other people.

According to the data, at least 67 percent of the population in Norway is fully vaccinated. For comparison, in the USA it is only 54,7 percent.

Due to the current situation, even fully vaccinated people are at high risk of contracting and spreading variants of the virus, the CDC believes.

W Norway The United States is a so-called "gray" country. This means restrictions on who can enter Norway and restrictions on entry for unvaccinated people. Vaccinated people and those who have had COVID-19 in the last six months - and can prove it with a corona certificate - are released from quarantine.

The United States also has entry restrictions for EEA and Schengen countries, which naturally affect Norway. According to the CDC, Great Britain, France, Spain and Greece are among the countries in Europe that also have the highest level of risk of infection.
