Every year, Universum selects the most attractive Norwegian employers in the following categories: law, health, humanities, engineering and science, IT and business. Although the police have been at the top of the list of lawyers since 2017, this is the first time seasoned IT professionals can judge the police. The police took the same position as when computer science students decided this spring.

- The new fifth place is fantastic news. This proves that the social mission of the police is important even for experienced technologists - says the director of the ICT services of the Police and the director of IT police Catherine Janson.

He points out that the award covers police-wide IT and that there are many exciting challenges for technologists, be it in Police Districts, Kripos or Police ICT services, to name a few.

“It's about everything from digital forensics and electronic trace analysis, working to combat digital crime and digital threats – to continuously developing solutions that make a difference and help save lives. It is clearly visible that it's worth working with IT solutions that support the police in their important work - he emphasizes.

This put the police immediately in fifth place. For the first time, an agency is part of the fixed choices that working people receive in a survey:

  1. Google
  2. Microsoft
  3. Finn
  4. Sopra Steria
  5. police

The police have now accelerated the digitization of the agency and are constantly looking for cutting-edge knowledge needed to continuously develop highly complex IT systems throughout the agency. The most important role of the police is to ensure the safety of the people of Norway. Surely the agency needs the best minds, both outside and inside behind the computer screen.

- We are very pleased that we are so attractive among experienced candidates from the IT industry - says Police Director Benedicte Bjørnland.

The Police Director points out that the police have to deal with the crime of the future. Digital and IT competences are of key importance.

- It shows that the work of the police on development in harmony with society. The use of technology to solve the task and the digitization of the agency made us an attractive employer. As a result, we need the best minds to be at the forefront of crime, he adds.

Police lawyers summit

For the fifth year in a row, the police are at the top of the Universum's ranking of the most attractive employer for lawyers in Norway.

- This is not something we should take as given once and for all. We must deserve every such year. At the same time, it is very nice - and a declaration of trust - that the lawyers put us at the top, says Police Director Benedicte Bjørnland.

With such a clear number one spot, Bjørnland believes that working for a major social actor is something a lot of people worry about.

- I think that our social mission undoubtedly appeals also to lawyers. That's something I can excel at as a trained lawyer, says Bjørnland.

- You get into the case quickly and get a quick trial in court which makes the job of a police lawyer attractive and exciting.
