On Friday, Norwegian F-35 fighters carried out air refueling for the first time in cooperation with NATO tankers.
For the first time, a Norwegian F-35 was refueled by the Airbus A330 (MRTT) tanker. The cooperation of oil tankers with NATO is important to the Armed Forces and the F-35 and enhances the capabilities of fighter jets.
Air Force Chief Major General Rolf Folland says aerial refueling is critical to supporting long-distance air missions.
– There is this strategic cooperation important for NATO and Norway, allows us to refuel during the flight, which extends the mission," he says.
In January, the F-35 will take over from Evenes's QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) contingent for NATO.
Refueling was carried out from the MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) tanker, which Norway has at its disposal as part of a strategic partnership.
