On November 12, the Norwegian government decided to offer a third refreshment dose to the population over 18 years of age. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health has now assessed how this will be implemented and the government is following this recommendation.
- The most important thing now is to offer a refreshing dose for people aged 65 and over. Therefore, it will be a while before those over 45 receive the offer. Vaccinating people under 45 should not be at the expense of people over 65, says deputy director Geir Bukholm at the National Institute of Public Health.
Priority is given to those who need the enhanced protection most
To anyone who works in healthcare service i care we also offer a refreshing dose.
Bukholm adds that municipalities should follow order. The point is that priority is given to those who need the enhanced protection most.
The revised FHI recommendation is in line with a recent recommendation by the European Infectious Disease Control Agency (ECDC) to consider proposing a refreshment dose to those over 40, followed by priority for the elderly and those at greatest risk of serious disease.
