Martial law in Poland in 1981–1983 - the state of emergency was introduced on December 13, 1981 throughout the Polish People's Republic, contrary to the Constitution of the People's Republic of Poland. It was suspended on December 31, 1982 and lifted on July 22, 1983. During its duration, a total of 10 activists associated with "Solidarity" were interned, and about 131 people lost their lives, including 40 miners from the "Wujek" mine during the pacification of the strike.

Martial law was introduced under the Council of State's resolution of December 12, 1981, at the request of the Military Council for National Salvation - a temporary, unconstitutional authority, and in fact superior to constitutional state authorities. It was supported by the Sejm of the People's Republic of Poland by a resolution of January 25, 1982.

40th anniversary of the declaration of martial law.

Let's look at the past for a moment. The decision to introduce martial law was approved on December 5, 1981 by the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party. General Jaruzelski was to set a date for the implementation of the entire operation. On the night of December 12-13, ZOMO branches occupied the premises of the regional Solidarity boards. People staying there at that time were detained and the communication and printing devices found were secured. Armored and mechanized units entered many cities in Poland. The militia was stationed at the most important communication junctions, exit routes, main intersections, official buildings and objects considered strategic.

We remember - also today ...

This is an important date. May the mood and events of the day never return. Let's be together on this day! And let us respect freedom! Let's enjoy it! Let us enjoy peace ... Let us teach our children to love freedom ...
