The attitude of Norwegians to immigration is becoming more and more positive. According to the Norwegian statistical office, among other things, the percentage of people who think that staying in Norway should be easier is growing.

Since 2002, attitudes towards immigrants and immigration have become more and more positive. Some more negative attitudes were measured after the spate of the influx of asylum seekers in the fall of 2015, but the trend has since reversed again - also in this year's survey.
- At the same time, when more positive attitudes are expressed, we see more contacts with immigrants. Most people who come into contact with immigrants say they have mostly positive experiences with it, says senior adviser at Statistics Norway, Frøydis Strøm.
The threat posed by immigrants
In this year's survey, fewer people than ever view immigrants as a threat to the security of society. Seven out of ten say they do not see immigrants as a source of uncertainty.
17% of respondents perceive immigrants as a threat, which is 3 percentage points less than in the previous year.
In 2002, there were roughly the same number of people who both agreed and disagreed.
Should it be easier to stay in Norway?
As a result of entry restrictions during the pandemic, it has become more difficult for refugees and asylum seekers to cross national borders.
Since 2019, the percentage of people who think it should be easier to stay in Norway has increased.
In the survey, 20 percent. replies that it should be easier. In 2020, this share was 17%, and in 2019 - 14%.
16 percent now thinks it should be harder. Last year, this percentage was 20%, while in 2019 it was 23%.
. Labor immigration
During the pandemic, strict entry restrictions were in place to limit cross-border broadcasting. 59 percent of those polled did not become more skeptical about labor immigration during the pandemic.
29% said they became more skeptical.
Eight out of ten agree that the majority of immigrants make a useful contribution to Norwegian working life, and seven in ten believe that economic immigration from countries outside the Nordic region largely has a positive effect on the Norwegian economy.
