The Nav report states that the pandemic cost Norway an additional NOK 67 billion in payments from Nav.
In 2020, the coronavirus cost NAV an additional NOK 39 billion, and so far this year is already NOK 28 billion, reports Børsen / Dagbladet.
According to Nav, 58 percent of the increase of NOK 67 billion, totaling NOK 39 billion, is due to the introduction of rule changes during the pandemic.

Unemployment benefits are by far the largest item of expenditure. During the pandemic, the unemployed had the opportunity to receive the unemployment benefit for a longer period than before. It was also possible to get a higher amount of unemployment benefit.
Other programs that have a cost include full salary compensation for sick leave up to the 20th day of work, the possibility of extending sick leave benefit beyond the maximum period and support for unemployed self-employed workers, apprentices and freelancers.
In total, about 40 rules have been changed to help people during the pandemic.
