Better working conditions in their home countries mean many Eastern European workers are leaving Norway. The construction industry believes this could impact the construction of schools and hospitals.
- In many other countries it is getting better. Then people from Eastern Europe choose to work in their home country instead of far from home in Norway. This is Jørgen Leegaard, director of social policy for the National Association of the Construction Industry.
He fears the fact that foreign workers decide to work in their own countries. Maybe, among others affect the construction of public buildings such as schools and hospitals in the coming years.
Norwegian industrial director Stein Lier-Hansen confirms the opinion Leegaard and says the industry is prepared to have to pay more for labor in the coming years.
Fafo analyst Jon Erik Følvik believes that what is happening now is good for employees.
– I think we are entering a phase where the market There is a demand for workers in Europe. That's good because we had a period where the work was offered at an extremely low cost and in extremely poor conditions. So it's high time for the employee's position to be strengthened, says Følvik.
