Director Camilla Stoltenberg and several other employees of the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) have received death threats during the pandemic. A number of threats have been reported.
- We reported several direct threats of violence and murder to the police against some employees, including Camilla Stoltenberg, says Gun Peggy Strømstad Knudsen of FHI for Avis Oslo.
The threats are most often related to new restrictions and vaccinations. FHI staff were asked to take action certain precautions at work and outside FHI premises.
- We receive a lot of insults from people. Both anger, vulgar remarks, and threats to the life and health of employees. They come by e-mail, text message or telephone, among others, says Strømstad Knudsen.
The Police Security Service (PST) is not directly responsible for FHI employees. They do not want to refer to the details of the threats against the Norwegian authorities at present. At the same time, they make the following general comment:
"We are constantly assessing the threat image surrounding government officials, the prime minister and other ministers, and we recommend implementing measures that we believe are necessary to obtain a threat image," says senior adviser Martin Bernsen on the PST.
