We clean Norway together on a national scale, 2021 volunteers took part in 590.
The IPSOS survey conducted in December 2021 on behalf of Hold Norge Rent shows that the spirit of hard work, volunteering and commitment to environmental protection is very strong in Norway.
- We are overwhelmed by this commitment and thank you to everyone. We thank those who clean and all who help across the country, says CEO Lise Keilty Gulbransen on the scope of voluntary cleaning in Norway.
Just over 13% of the Norwegian population over the age of 15 cleaned litter one or more times in 2021. Involvement is high nationwide, but highest in central and northern Norway. Men clean more than women, but the differences are slight. 15% of men and 12% of women say they collected garbage in 2021.
Housekeeping is both a satisfying and social activity. 75% of volunteers clean together with others, and almost half clean in their local community.
In addition to the volunteers themselves, there are many who contribute and support this activity. Local teams and associations, non-profit and voluntary organizations, field councils, waste companies and municipalities are among the actors who do an impressive job, as well as all those who contribute financially.
- The scope of voluntary cleaning would not be possible without everyone involved across the country. Especially the waste industry, which has made invaluable efforts, says Gulbransen.
We are committed to recruiting more volunteers than ever before
Anyone can join voluntary shared cleaning, and on Saturday, March 19, Hold Norge Rent invites you to its Spring Cleaning Day. In autumn, the association also invites you to Strandryddeuk 10-18. September, as part of the 2022 Year of Volunteering.
- Together with everyone involved in the cleaning campaign, we aim to attract more volunteers than ever before. The results of this study show that the people of Norway can and will participate in charity, says Gulbransen.
