The provincial council rejected Viken - and at its Wednesday (February 23, 2022) meeting it started building three new voivodeships, or rather restoring them.
The council in Viken decided on Wednesday afternoon with 49 votes from the Labor, Sp, SV, Rødt and Frp parties. Abolish Viken in favor of restoring the three provinces of Akershus, Østfold and Buskerud. 38 members of the district council (H, MDG, KrF, V, FNB and PP) voted to keep Viken.
The Viken website will close on January 1, 2024 and be replaced by three new websites:
afk.no (Akershus)
bfk.no (Buskerud)
ofk.no (Østfold)

Viken, now Norway's largest county with around 1,2 million inhabitants and 51 municipalities, will therefore suffer a different fate than Innlandet. Which was decided earlier on Wednesday by Innlandet County Council.
The Labor Party in Viken, which, unlike its party comrades in the interior, wants to divide the large province, also emphasizes the importance of dividing the approximately 12 current workers into new regions.
costs
- It is estimated that the costs of the project to establish new voivodeships and divide Viken are in the cost range of NOK 310 to 440 million.
- The level of costs is particularly influenced by the choices regarding the organization of digital services.
