The Oljedirektoratet 2022 resource report shows how important it is to maintain attractive land for both oil and gas if Norway is to maintain its role as a stable and long-term energy supplier to Europe.
The Oljedirektoratet estimates that the remaining resources can provide jobs, provide a large community income and provide Europe with the energy it needs. In order to limit the decline in production, new discoveries must also be made and developed. In addition, it is important that the industry adopts the new technology to produce the remaining reserves in the field.

- We are working hard to achieve the climate goal. Nevertheless, there will be oil and gas demand and new discoveries in the future. It is therefore important to produce with low emissions and low cost. In order for us to be able to supply energy to Europe, we need attractive land. This applies to both oil, gas and offshore wind energy, says Offshore Norway chief economist Ellen Bakken.
Energy transformation in Europe
- I think many people find it attractive to help find new solutions that the industry needs in the future. And I hope you will see this in the number of candidates in future recruitments. These are difficult times in Europe, but exciting opportunities for employees. Energy is central and important and I think it will be a long time to come, he continues.
At the same time, the Oljedirektoratet shows in the resource report how hydrogen can strengthen the competitiveness of Norwegian gas in the long term and contribute to the creation of a CO2 capture and storage (CCS) market. Europe's energy transition may also contribute to an increased demand for seabed minerals. These minerals are necessary for the production of, among others electric cars, wind turbines, batteries and electric components.
