According to the municipality of Drammen, on New Year's Eve, the municipality in Holmennokken (Drammen city center) and Batteriøya (Svelvik city center) will organize a fireworks display.
The last time the municipality was responsible for a joint fireworks display at Holmennokken was in 2019. In the past two years, such shows have been canceled due to pandemic restrictions and the risk of large gatherings of people.
This year, the fireworks in Holmennokken are back. At the same time, there will be city fireworks on Batteriøya in Svelvik. This is a tradition that existed in the former municipality of Svelvik and is continued today.
For everyone
Mads Hilden, chairman of the committee for culture, sport and volunteering in the municipality of Drammen, is happy that the tradition of municipal fireworks is returning after the pandemic.
– We provide fireworks visible from many places in the commune. We want to offer something that everyone can rally around, something great to watch as a sign of entering the new year, says Hilden.
The famous Spiralen Tunnel will also be open all night. In this situation, residents who want to will be able to go up and watch the fireworks at midnight.
More benefits
The chairman of the main committee talks about several advantages of joint fireworks, including about safety and less garbage around. What's more, residents don't have to buy their own fireworks.
“It's a good deal to celebrate the New Year in a decent way without having to mess with people's wallets in times of financial pressure.
The fireworks show traditionally starts at midnight on Holmennokken and Batteriøya. The chairman hopes that Mjøndalen will also have a suitable place for city fireworks next year.
