The year 2022 is coming to an end and, according to tradition, Stavanger will celebrate the new year with joint fireworks. Join us for fireworks for everyone! We start at midnight on New Year's Eve in nine different places in the commune:

  • Vågen and Stavanger sentrum
  • Judaberg
  • Vikevåg
  • Madlatua
  • Kiwi-banen på Hundvåg
  • The cairn
  • The city pile
  • Vålandstårnet
  • Jåttåvågen

– What is slightly different from previous years is the start in Vikevåg. This year it takes place from the mainland, about 600 meters south of the marina. But it will be just as spectacular as before, says Trygve Petter Nilsen, head of the road and traffic section of Stavanger Municipality.

Professional pyrotechnicians are responsible for the fireworks.

In principle, private fireworks are not allowed in densely populated areas, i.e. ordinary urban and residential areas.

In the center of Stavanger there is also a no-go zone from Kalhammaeren to the north, Hillevåg to the south, Eiganes to the west and Storhaug to the east. It is an area with 8000 wooden houses.

– Private fireworks are not allowed in the no-go zone, says Nilsen. View the restricted zone map here.

Injuries and fires due to the use of fireworks

“We experienced that with communal fireworks, there was less private fireworks being set off, and therefore fewer fireworks-related injuries and fires.

"If anyone has experienced the dangerous and unreasonable use of fireworks, they should contact the police on 02800," concludes Nilsen.

Private, approved fireworks may be launched by persons over 18 years of age on New Year's Eve between 18.00 p.m. and 02.00 a.m. Read more about regulations regarding handling explosives.
