The EFTA monitoring body (ESA) today approved the extension of the revised VAT exemption for electric cars until 2024.
The approval applies to the VAT exemption for the purchase and leasing of electric passenger cars below a purchase amount of NOK 500. The government draft of the state budget for 000 proposes to maintain the VAT exemption after 2023, with the exception that VAT will have to be paid on purchases over 2022. NOK. This is in line with the budget agreement with the SV on the revised national budget for 500. The change follows the budget agreement between the government parties and the SV on the 2022 budget.
ESA is responsible for monitoring compliance by the Norwegian authorities with the EEA Agreement rules on support. Exemption from VAT for electric cars below NOK 500 involves state aid, therefore all planned support measures must be pre-notified to ESA and approved.
