Easter is a moveable feast. In 2023 in Poland and Norway Easter will be celebrated on April 9 (Sunday).

Tradition Easter there are Easter eggs - often decorated with bright colors or patterns in yellow and blue. They are often treated as gifts.

Easter is also one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar; signifies the resurrection of Jesus after the crucifixion. In Norway people decorate their houses with flowers.

Easter in Poland

Easter celebration begins on Saturday evening (the eve of Palm Sunday). The next morning, people attend mass at the local church or synagogue.

Easter tradition in Poland is very similar to that of other Christian traditions:

– Women make a beautiful wreath of colored eggs and then put it on while eating breakfast.

– Some also decorate their houses with flowers and candles.

“After breakfast, they all go to church together. Many children dressed up as angels or other biblical figures like Mary Magdalene or John the Baptist are often seen at the mass.

In fact, many of our favorite Easter customs have their roots in Poland. For example:

1) The Easter Bunny - according to legend, he was the original rabbit that lived in the forest where Jesus was buried. After Jesus rose from the dead, he left gifts for all the children who believed in him. This story comes from an older legend about a rabbit who helped a girl find her lost eggs on Easter morning.

2) Chocolate eggs - original, made of hardened fat (often lard) and decorated with colored wax or cinnamon. These two ingredients are still used today for the national product of Easter eggs!

Easter celebration in Norway

There are many traditions surrounding Easter in Norway. Some of them include eating lamb and bread together on Easter Sunday, serving baskets of eggs to children or friends, decorating eggs with colorful patterns, and baking cookies called Krumkaker. There is also decorating houses with bunnies and flowers. Easter Monday is called påskeaften (pronounced paw-ske ah-fenn). On Sunday evening, people go out with their families or go to restaurants, and then return home early to get up for gjærbakst, or gingerbread, on Monday morning.

Many traditions have their roots in the pre-Christian era of Norway, when the goddess Ostara was celebrated as a fertility goddess. The name of this holiday comes from the German word "Ostern", which means "east", referring to the time of the sun rising at this time of year. Today in Norway children They dress up as Ostara's animals: hares, rabbits and chickens. Considered symbols of fertility
