Summer weather hasn't met your expectations so far? It will be worse next week. Much worse.

Heavy rainfall, strong winds and snow. That's what the weather forecasters predict for next week.

“We are very excited about Monday's weather. A violent storm is heading towards southern Norway. Reports weather presenter Maiken Fosen at StormGeo.

The reason for the unusual summer weather is a strong low-lying movement north of Eastern Europe.

– There will be a lot of precipitation in eastern Norway, in central Norway and partly in Nordland. But especially in the eastern part of Norway there will be heavy rainfall, which can reach up to 100 millimeters in one day. Olav Krogsæter, believes that rainfall could be a major challenge in eastern Norway on Monday and Tuesday.

“Especially the eastern part of Norway, which used to be Hedmark County, will see a lot of rainfall. If it were in western Norway, it might be bearable, but the nature here is not designed to take in 100 millimeters of water in one day, Krogsæther tells StormGeo.

Storm and snow

If that in itself wasn't bad enough, Norwegians can also brace themselves for rising winds across the country.

“There is talk of a storm in much of the country. The Westland coast and southern Norway avoid most precipitation, but can wait for violent and strong gales, says Fosen.

If you're dreaming of a trip to the mountaintops next week, it's worth rethinking your plans. The unusual August weather will be, if possible, even more so extraordinary in heights, and in southern Norway a storm is expected in the mountains.

The northern winds will also lead to temperatures that few of us associate with summer.

– In the high mountains it can snow because of the winds from the north. Up to half a meter of snow can fall on the highest peaks, i.e. over 1300 meters.
