The EU has finally decided that USB-C chargers are becoming the new standard for many electronic products. The regulation also means that when buying new products, consumers can choose whether they want to buy a product with or without a charger.

Following Product types will receive a standard charging cable USB-C
- Mobile phones
- Tablets and reading tablets
- digital cameras and video game consoles
- Headphones
- Portable Speakers
- Wireless mice and wireless keyboards
- Portable navigation systems
- laptops
For most products covered by the regulation, the requirements will apply from the end of 2024, while for notebooks only from spring 2026.
Big environmental benefits
It is Nkom who is responsible for preparing the Norwegian regulations in connection with the new EU directive and they will check whether the products sold meet the requirements.
— This will make a significant contribution to reducing the amount of electrical waste and reducing the consumption of raw materials and CO2 emissions. This is a good example of how benefits for both consumers and the environment can be created without compromising the benefits we get from products, says Nkom Division Director John-Eivind Velure.
