A trip without an overnight stay – one-day commercial trips to Sweden
Day-tourists left 4,5 billion crowns on commercial trips abroad between January and June this year. At the same time, we made 2,3 million day trips abroad and spent an average of 1970 kroner on each trip. Cross-border shopping statistics only cover trips and purchases by Norwegians that take place as part of overnight trips.
– Norwegians spent almost 2 billion crowns on groceries and daily necessities. This is the group of products on which the most money was spent. This accounted for 44 percent of all cross-border purchases in the first half of the year, says senior advisor Kristin Aasestad.
What did the basket look like?
Alcohol accounted for 13 percent of the shopping basket, of which 8 percent was wine and spirits and 5 percent was alcoholic beer and cider. 5 percent of cross-border purchases were spent on chewing tobacco and 6 percent on cigarettes and tobacco. Carbonated drinks and mineral water are popular products when shopping across borders. Carbonated drinks accounted for 7 percent of all cross-border purchases, while chocolate and confectionery accounted for 4 percent. In addition to shopping, many people also find time to visit a cafe, restaurant or visit a hairdresser. Norwegians spent 462 million crowns on visits to cafes and restaurants and other services, most of which was spent on places serving meals during day trips abroad, says Kristin Aasestad.
